How Mom spent Christmas

Mom always spends Christmas Eve with cousin Gizmo and his family. Cousin Gizmo sleeps with her to be sure she is safe and stays out of the presents until Christmas morning.

Cousin Sushimi comes in every once in awhile to check that Gizmo is doing his job.

After some presents are opened a spot opens up again for Gizmo under his tree.

A very tired Gizmo at the end of the day.

I love a calendar girl

For those of you familiar with the website stuffonmycat.com you know they come out with a calendar each year. Well to our surprise in the 2007 calendar, our Lilly is the featured cat this weekend on it! Being that I'm into scrapbooking, I did a page layout of the occasion and this is the actual calendar page. Miss Lilly is walking around like she's a star today and being very demanding. See how fame goes to your head?

Cousin Bailey, the detective

Momma's niece, Katie, is a teacher and this bag was a gift to her from one of her students. Her kitty, and our cousin, Bailey, thinks she should should get gifts from her students too. Wonder if she ever found anything.

On your mark...get set...GO!!!

Lilly: "Hey, this is MY shelf!"
Laila: "Too bad! First come, first serve!"

Lilly: "Little brat!"

Laila: "Nee ner, nee ner, nee ner!"

This morning when I opened the closet for Lilly whoa and behold, they both jumped on the shelf at the same time. I was waiting for a fight to erupt, but one never did. The big sister won out I think only because she's bigger.

Momma's little helper

Mom has been baking Christmas cookies all week and I've been such a big help to her! This is my favorite spot where I supervise and clean up any messes that may fall to the floor. We work pretty well together too. Mom has become an expert in doing this little dance to avoid stepping on me.

Great hiding place

Surely no one will see me in here.

My cute little kitten paw.

Only three more days until Christmas! This is my first one so I'm not really sure what all happens. Mom said that ugly monster that got put back in it's cage was a big part of it. Not too sure she's telling me the truth. Since I already got my present, the monster getting put away, she's not sure if there will be any presents for me. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I did see her bring in a bag from Petsmart yesterday. Hmmmm...

Too much Christmas cheer

This morning Mom is complaining about how her tummy feels sick from all the Christmas luncheons and dinners she's gone to this week. As of today since Monday, there have been three and another one yet tonight! We are not happy she hasn't been home much to attend to her slave duties! At least tomorrow she is having company and pizza is being brought in! Maybe we can steal a piece! We are looking forward to getting our Mom back full time!

Nativity security

Cousin Gizmo guarding his Nativity.

In lieu of a Christmas tree?

Mom says since her beautiful Christmas tree is put away, she's going to start decorating me!

This can't be good!

We did it!

Since this is my first Christmas and I'm still a baby, Lilly did all the work and I just watched. She really knows what she's doing! Guess it's from many years of helping Mom.

Lilly is too pooped to go on. For a 16+ year old senior, she did really well!

Christmas elf

Here I am waiting for Mom to start wrapping all the presents. She doesn't know it yet, but I'm gonna help! heeheehee! She's staying home all day, except for when she goes and feeds Roomba, to wrap everything. She has to get ready to be in front of the tv to watch the 3 hour Survivor China finale. This is also a "no makeup day". I'm lucky I'm beautiful all the time so I don't need any. Mom needs all the help she can get! OOPS! Better be careful or I'll get coal in my stockings! Oh, wait! I already got my Christmas present this year! The monster is back in his cage!

Meet my new playmates

Help! I'm being ganged up on!

It is so wonderful having all of my house back! I'm totally back to normal now and what's the deal with Mom holding me and almost starting to cry? She claims she's just happy I'm back and that she has her little girl with her again. This morning I got a real good combing. Boy, did that ever feel good!

Baby steps

Mom had the monster back in his cage last night by 9:30 and that was after an hour long phone conversation or it would have been sooner. I am still a little afraid but I am slowly being reintroduced to the living room after 4 weeks. Just like when I was a baby kitten of 10 weeks. Here Mom took a picture of me about 15 minutes ago surveying everything from where the monster use to stand. She is the bestest! Thanks Mom!

No greater love

I have such a wonderful Mom! She loves me so much that she is taking the monster down starting tonight after dinner and putting it back in it's cage so that I can come back out into the rest of our condo. It's just been tearing her apart that I don't join her and Lilly in the living room and she's noticed I'm so sad I can't join them. She wanted to take the day off work today to do it, but realized the people at work would really think she's a crazy cat lady! She said she's enjoyed the monster enough, and I truly don't understand that! I'm way more important to her! I love you Mom!

Me and my tunnel

Mom has moved my tunnel in the foyer since I won't go in the living room to play in it.

Oops! It rolled over on top of me! I'm sure getting tired of that monster taking over my playground! Mom promised that in 15 days she'd start taking it down and getting it out of my living room!

Skating rink

When Mom went to feed Roomba yesterday around 11 the parking lot and sidewalks were one huge sheet of ice. She thought she was going to have to just go home but then backed the car up as close as she could on the sidewalk on the other side of the handicap space and got out in a snow bank and trudged through the snow to get to him. But there was no way she could walk on the sidewalk to get to the food bowl so she kicked snow onto the sidewalk so she could walk on that to get to her boy. Talk about dedication! Then this morning when she went to work the same conditions. Again she walked in the snow to get into the building with Roomba running ahead of her on the sidewalk. She wished she'd had her camera because he was slipping, sliding and falling then scampering back up and it would happen again. She couldn't stop laughing. What a great way to start a day!

Keeping warm in Chicago

My very own scarf for when the temps get too much to handle.

Mom says I look just too cute!

My temporary playground

After Mom makes the bed she puts some of my toys on it for me.

Playing with the turbo scratcher with Mom.

This morning I was chasing my sister then she ran into the living room and luckily I caught myself just in time before I made the mistake of following her into the room with the monster! Whew! Lilly is one smart kitty! Mom promised she would take the monster down right after Christmas so I can have my living room back. She said that's my Christmas present.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Weathermen were right! Looking out my sliders.

Out front at work. 7 inches I measured!

Roomba's tent nice and dry and protected.

Roomba looks like a skunk with the snow on his back.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Yes, Roomba most definitely likes his tent

Roomba loves sitting atop his tent keeping a close watch on his kingdom.

He also tries to get everyone's attention from the inside when they walk by and glance out the front door.

Posing for the camera

See how silky shiny my furs are?

And my floofy tail.

Roomba stayed nice and warm and dry

Roomba's tent . Had to pull up the one side to help keep out the snow and freezing rain.

Nice and cozy!

Chowing down breakfast.

Glad yesterday is over!

WOW! What a storm we had yesterday! We'd like to thank our buddies, the corn cats in Iowa, for sending it to us too. Mom had no intentions of going out yesterday after she fed Roomba in the morning. The flurries started at 12:30 then it changed to real snow then to freezing rain. Mom did go out on an errand of mercy for our Auntie Dee who lives downstairs from us to pick up a prescription for her from Target. She said she'd only do something like that for her or her kitty, Angel, or us. When she got back in the car it was covered in ice! The roads were horrible with that bumpy ice all over. She just went real slow and finally made it there and back safe. She even stopped to check in on Roomba who was all snuggly warm and dry in his tent she puts over his bed in the evenings and on weekends. Then later it started to rain and the temperature rose and today what was all covered in ice is all wet now. Mom has to go out today to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra so I'm glad the roads will be good for her.

I'm still afraid to go into the living room with the monster. Yesterday Mom picked me up and sat down on the recliner with me and I was so scairt that I squirmed and squirmed and shredded her skins with my sharp nails to escape to the safety of the bedroom. She wasn't upset with me and promised she wouldn't do that to me again. But this morning I was a brave kitten and went into the dining room and kept Lilly company while she ate then sat on one of the dining room chairs. But that's all I could handle!

Snuggly warm

Roomba's winter bed.

All settled in.

Out like a light.

Friday fun

Lilly here! Mom caught me this morning playing in the water bowl. It's been so nice having that bratty little sister afraid of this room and the room with my beautiful Christmas tree I feel like a kitten again myself! We're under a winter weather advisory tomorrow so Mom said she'll probably cancel her plans and stay home with us and finish decorating my tree.

The monster is getting even scarier!

I accidentally ran into the dining room and out of the corner of my eye I saw the monster in the living room ablaze with lights! What is Mom doing? Can she please stop making the monster more scarier? How does she expect me to work up the courage to even look at or go into the living room? I miss my recliner! boohoohoo!

Note from Mom

Yes, that's a Feliway plug in. To the left is a night light I use. Should have removed it for the picture. I got it at Petsmart yesterday. You have to ask for them at the cashier's as they keep them locked up. They aren't cheap ($41.31 total) but if they work, they're worth every dollar. The refill lasts 4 weeks. I hope to remove it once Laila gets up the courage to enter the living room and at least be able to deal with the "monster" being in there. Or maybe I'll leave it. Next time I'll keep her in the bedroom with the door closed. I did this when I had my sliders replaced last summer and she wasn't traumatised by the noise.

What the heck?

Mom came home with this today and plugged it into the outlet in our foyer. She said it will help me be calmer and not to be so afraid of going into the living room. I sure am curious about the smell of this thing. Mom says she can't smell anything but being the superior huntress I am, it's very delightful. So far I haven't worked up the courage to go into the room with the monster in it.

Mom put these colorful shiney things on the monster and now it's even more scarier than before! I can't imagine what else she can put on it to make it any scarier, can you?

The two talking cats

Tree update

I still won't go into the living room with the monster but Mom said she's gonna start putting the lights on it tonight. Yeah, that's it, make it even MORE scarier!

Mom is at wits end with me

Mom is mad at me because I freak out big time when she tries to take me into the room with the monster tree in it. This morning she even took it all apart and just left the top standing but I'm still afraid. I'm hoping she'll just give in and put it away for me. She thinks maybe once the light get put on it I'll like it and not be so afraid. She's never heard of a cat doing this. And to think she went out and bought a special spray water bottle to squirt me to keep me out of it. Teeheehee!

From my purrspective

Now, isn't this a terrifying picture? Can you now understand why I'm so afraid? Lilly loves the tree but doesn't she understand it can gobble her up in a flash never to be seen again? Mom informed me this morning that I just have to deal with this for the next 7 weeks because she loves her Christmas tree too much not to have it up. Now I know what is more important to her! Boohoohoo!

I'm such a huge scaredy cat!!!

Here is the huge box that has our Christmas tree in it. Mom brought it out of hiding yesterday and I was very curious as to what was inside. Well, she started taking out these huge noisy branches and it about scared the pants (if I wore them!) off me! I was so terrified I wouldn't come out in the living room and haven't since then. One time I forgot and did come out, took one look at it and ran for the bedroom! Then Mom put a new Christmas rug in the kitchen and I'm terrified of that too and won't go in there where the food is so Mom was getting worried I would waste away to nothing, so she put the rug away. She doesn't know what to do. Should she put the tree away and not decorate it this year or wait and see if I get use to it and eventually come out and explore. I know it takes me a bit to get use to things and she's been very patient and understanding with me since she adopted me since I'm such a whimp.

This is where Mom moved my cat tree to make room for that scary ol' tree. I really like having it in the bedroom. I can still lay on it and look out a window and it's nice and close to the heat register so I stay nice and warm. Last night I even crawled under the covers to sleep next to Mom to help keep her warm. This was the first time I ever did that and Mom was so surprised! Maybe I'll do it more often as she really seemed to like it.

My first snow!

Well, it doesn't show up here but there were lots of little snow flurries speeding by the window yesterday morning, something I'd never seen before! They were so cool! I had a lot of fun watching them and batting at them as they flew by. Mom said the Corn Cats sent them to us and that we were suppose to get one to three inches of the floofy stuff, but as happens a lot here in Chicago, the weathermen lied!

We want to thank everycat for their Thanksgiving wishes and we hope you all had a great day. Mom didn't bring leftovers home but she promised to tonight when she goes to our cousins for another turkey dinner.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We are wishing all our furriends here in America a Happy Thanksgiving and that we are so thankful we have all of you as our new found furriends. And that also goes to all our International furriends too! Momma is going to a turkey feast today and tomorrow so she said we will be having turkey leftovers coming out of our ears. That kind of scares me! But she promised to share some with me and Lilly. I'm kind of curious to find out what it tastes like since I've never had it before. I know I will because Mom says I'm her little furry garbage disposal.
