Purrs for Minchie

This is Mom Peggy stealing the blog today to let everyone know what Minchie has been going through since his Feb. 12th semi-annual exam.  Blood work came back with some questionable results so he had an ultrasound which showed his intestines thick and large. IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease) mesenteric lymph nodes enlarged (many of them), possibly and probably lymphoma.  Cause of weight loss.  No masses found.  Surgery/biopsy only way to tell.  Don't want to put him through that at his age and weight loss.  Can assume it is cancer and will go on cancer drug chloranbucil compounded before he gets into trouble.  He also is getting B12 shots once a month which I give him.

He has been on the cancer drug since April 27 and after 14 doses (once every three days) he gradually stopped eating.  Loss of appetite is one of the side effects.  Until then he was eating many, many times a day.  He's still drinking water, which is very good.  Going to call today to have them prescribe an appetite stimulant.  He's losing weight and just looks awful.  I've been force feeding him, which he fights me on but I do my best.

Kept putting off telling everyone but feel now is the time.  Just keep my little mancat in your prayers and purrs.  Thanks!

  22. I am heartbroken for you Peggy. So hard to watch our love bugs go through cancer and IBD. Savvy is about 12 and I am managing her gut issues with raw food I buy from Raw Paws Pet Food. Also I have helped a cat thru hepatic lipidosos using a feeding tube. I feel by know how old Minchie is and I sure support you in not putting him through anything that challenges him. Sending our best healing purrs

  29. Oh, we are all sending positive thoughts, purrs, hugs and paws to Minchie. Since Smokey had small intestinal cancer, he was also on Prednisolone along with Chlorambucil and he ate like a pig. He was always eating. He initially was put on the prednisolone because of his puking, but then we found out about his cancer. Well, and over the years we added flagyl and metoclopramide. Hugs to you and Minchie.

  41. Peggy, reading this is sad news and I am desperately sorry this has happened. I know you will do as we did when our Sooty goy Lymphoma, you will fight every step of the way and not give an inch until you know the time has come.

There is much encouragement here from friends, and check out the Tabbies advice, they are good cats.

Best wishes and all our love,

    Marjorie and the Cats
