Mancat Monday

Minchie on cicada patrol, just in case.  Thankfully they never come inside!

Yesterday we talked about the noisy locusts.  Well, they really are cicadas, not locusts.  (We need to send our secretary back to school!)  For those of you who do not have them in your areas or countries, here's a video of what they sound like.  Sometimes they are so loud we can't hear our tv!

  1. We have them here too, some in our tree behind our fence. Yep, they're LOUD. We learned last summer, from a news report on tv, that they hibernate for around 7 years and then come out to mate and procreate. Guess if you're only conscious once in every handful or so years, you have to "shout" about it. LOL.

  9. The Woman says the Chinese use cicada skin (the shed part) in formulas for laryngitis and colds. Um... they make sure to hide them in the formulas for bulk herbs so people are not totally weirded out.

We have a LOT of them and they are very very noisy, but recently we've found that they are fun to bat around but the buzzing noise scares us kitties!

  12. Yes, I've heard those things on TV shows lots of times. I think it would drive me crazy -- I can't stand high-pitched sounds.

And Minchie, you are such a brave mancat to stand guard against these infidels!

  14. We had some of those a year or so ago. They are really noisy and a pain. It drove our Mom nuts. Minchie, that is a good place to be, way up there. Take care.

  15. We have never seen them, but our mum said when she went to Spain, they used to go in the trees by the bedroom window and the noise used to drive her nuts.

  20. I've heard that cicadas are tasty, and that some humans even eat them! My human found recipes on the internet. No, she has never tried them... but she should have at least tried them and given us kitties the result!
